Coach Jeff Saltzman Has been around the game his whole life, and it shows. He started coaching at JCC, then went on to coach with Grassroots Basketball, where he helped develop some of Canada’s top young talent.
Over the years, Jeff has coached everyone from beginners to future pros, including NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Atlanta Hawks guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and James Kweku Teye, who now plays professionally in Asia. But for Jeff, it’s never just been about producing elite players, it’s about helping kids build confidence, work ethic, and a love for the game.
He cares just as much about who his players become as how they play. At North City, Jeff is here to teach, push, and support every athlete as they grow, on the court and off.
Assistant Coach Matti Is a former York Region All-Star, he was playing Toronto AAU back when it was just getting started and there were only a handful of teams in all of Ontario. After that, he took his game to the college level, continuing to compete and grow as an athlete.
When his basketball career wrapped up, he moved into boxing, training under legendary coach Boris Gitman, who was the former USSR and Canada boxing Olympic coach. Competing in the ring taught him a whole new level of discipline, mental toughness, and resilience.
After finishing his own competitive career, he stayed in the gym, helping train younger boxers and passing on everything he’d learned about hard work, focus, and never backing down when things get tough.
Now he brings that same mindset to coaching basketball: show up, put in the work, push through adversity, and get better every day, no matter where you’re starting from.
